Fourth, Fireworks and Fishing

We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful weather this Fourth of July holiday weekend. To get a jumpstart on the weekend, we all met my sister's family at Charlotte Beach on Friday morning so our little guys could play in the sand. We had a great time! Ethan and my nephew, Adam, had a blast splashing in the water and digging in the sand with their trucks.  I hadn't been to Charlotte Beach for several years and it so much better than I remember.  There are new businesses at the former fast ferry terminal and it just seems cleaner and more family friendly. The weather was sunny, but in the low 70s with no humidity, making it almost the perfect summer day. It would have been perfect had we stopped for Abbott's, but we ran out of time.  A boy's gotta nap, when a boy's gotta nap.

On Saturday morning we headed to Cayuga Lake to spend the 4th with family.  Ethan LOVES going to the lake.  He gets to ride his "four-wheeler," go fishing, eat sugary treats, and get lots of attention from his Grandma.  Check, check, check, and check.  We let Ethan stay up late to watch the fireworks. It was actually a gamble because we had no idea if, when, and where there would be fireworks around the lake, but it turned out we could see a number of different fireworks displays from our vantage point. Ethan thought the fireworks were pretty cool, made clear with his running around and screaming "Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!"  He didn't really sit down to enjoy them, though, as he was too preoccupied with making and eating s'mores.

After waking up bright and early Sunday (no sleeping in despite the late night before) Ethan finally went fishing with a real hook, mostly because Ethan broke the last toy fish he had been using. Ethan is a fishing pro! On his first outing, he caught seven fish, eclipsing the total number caught by his Dada.  All in all, it was a great Fourth of July weekend!
